Install Mongo 3.0 DB on Linux Mint 17

echo “deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse” | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb-org-3.0.list

Goal

Installing Mongo 3 on a Linux Mint

Description

This recipe is adapted from Tobias Rienmüller blog and I’m posting it here only for future and easier reference (I used it and it worked perfectly on my machine).

How to

First, import the public key used by the package management system:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv 7F0CEB10

Next, we have to create the source file list for the Mongo DB 3.0 by:

echo "deb http://repo.mongodb.org/apt/ubuntu trusty/mongodb-org/3.0 multiverse" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mongodb-org-3.0.list

After that, we update the repositories with the command:

sudo apt-get update

Next, we download and install the MongoDB 3.0 package, through the following command:

sudo apt-get install -y mongodb-org

And to finalize the procedure, we just check that everything worked and that we have the right version installed (it should return MongoDB shell version: 3.0.12):

mongo --version
